The Bonsai 12" PFS-300 impulse heat sealer is a hand press sealer fitted with an 8mm seal wire, the wide band you want for closing mushroom spawn and grow bags. It draws 400 watts from a standard 110V outlet, so it goes anywhere on the bench with no special wiring.

An impulse sealer only heats while the arm is pressed down, then cools with the bag still clamped. That is what gives you a clean, fused seal instead of a stretched or scorched one, and it means the sealer is not sitting hot on the bench between bags.
Why the 8mm seal matters for mushroom bags
Mushroom bags are gusseted, heavier than packaging film, and have to hold their seal through a full sterilization cycle and weeks of colonization. A narrow seal line leaves very little margin: one fold, crease or bit of grain dust in the seal area and you have a channel for contamination. An 8mm band fuses a much wider strip of material, which gives every seal more room for error.
Built to hold up to daily use
The transformer and coil use copper components, which run cooler and lose less power to heat than cheaper builds, so the sealer keeps performing consistently across long bagging sessions. The housing is antioxidant aluminum with a triple-coat white paint finish that resists water and rust, a better fit for a humid prep room than the iron shells used on many budget sealers.
Getting a reliable seal every time
- Keep the seal area of the bag clean and dry. Grain dust, substrate or moisture caught in the seal is the most common cause of a failed seal.
- Lay the bag flat across the seal bar with no folds or wrinkles in the seal zone.
- Press the arm down and hold it through the heat cycle, then keep holding a moment while the seal cools before you release.
- Test on a spare bag whenever you change bag types, and adjust the heat setting until the seal is fully fused without burning through.
Inspect every seal before the bag goes into the sterilizer. A weak seal is far cheaper to redo at the bench than to discover as a contaminated bag three weeks later.
