The B-310L is the entry point into commercial sterilization. A double-deck chamber running 150 three-pound grain bags — about 450 pounds per cycle, or 900 on a two-cycle day — in a footprint barely over two and a half feet wide. This is the machine for farms that have outgrown pressure cookers and vertical autoclaves.

Built from SUS 304 stainless steel with double insulation and a side-loading chamber, the B-310L gives you full programmable control over temperature, pressure, and cycle time — the same control the larger machines have, sized for a room you already own.

Side-loading, not top-loading

Vertical autoclaves load from the top. That means reaching down into a hot, steaming chamber to lift bags out, every cycle, for as long as you own the machine.

The B-310L loads from the side. You are never leaning over open steam, bags come out at working height, and the risk of a burn drops to something close to zero. If you are stepping up from a 150L or 200L vertical unit, this is the difference you will notice on day one — before you notice the capacity.

Cycle times depend on what is in the chamber

Most sterilizer listings publish a single cycle time. That number is almost always heat-up on an empty chamber, and it is not what you will experience in production. Here is how this machine actually runs.

Reaching 15 PSI takes about 60 minutes empty. Under a real load, expect 2 to 3 hours — denser and wetter loads take longer to come up to temperature throughout.

Sterilizing time at pressure then depends entirely on what you are running:

Add heat-up, hold, and cool-down together and a typical mushroom cycle runs 6 to 7 hours start to unload.

Two cycles a day is the normal rhythm

A 6 to 7 hour cycle does not mean one run per day. The pattern on a working farm is:

  • First thing in the morningLoad the chamber and start it

The overnight run finishes on its own and is sitting ready to unload the next morning. That second cycle costs no additional labour, and it is only possible because the programmable controls and automatic shutoff let the chamber run unattended. On this machine, two cycles a day is roughly 900 lbs of grain.

Venting: why mushroom work runs longer

Plant tissue culture labs open the main valve at the end of a run, vent fast, and have the chamber turned around for another cycle quickly. That is why a 30-minute tissue culture cycle really is a 30-minute cycle.

You cannot do that with filter patch bags. Rapid depressurization will burst them. Bags require a controlled cool-down, and that cool-down is most of the difference between the 4-hour hold time and the 6 to 7 hour total. Rigid substrate jars can be vented quickly — bags cannot.

Installs without facility work

Connect power to the control box and electrical panel. That is the installation. No plumbing, no drain lines, no steam supply, no building modifications.

Many imported sterilizers arrive wired to foreign standards and leave the difference for you to resolve. The B-310L is built for U.S. installation from the start, in 220V single phase on a 50A circuit or three phase.

At 31 inches wide and 57 inches tall it fits through a standard doorway and under a standard ceiling, which is why this model ends up in garages, converted outbuildings, and the corner of existing grow rooms rather than in purpose-built spaces.

Built to run unattended

The overnight cycle above is the reason these features matter. Every one of them exists so the chamber can be left alone with a full load in it.

Common questions

Is the B-310L enough machine for my farm?

On the standard two-cycle day it moves about 900 lbs of grain. If you are filling it twice daily and still short, the B-550L roughly doubles that at 1,400 lbs, and the B-1180L reaches 3,000. A half-loaded chamber costs the same in power and time as a full one, so size to the volume you will actually fill.

I am running four to six pressure cookers. Is this the right step?

Yes, and the gain is consistency as much as volume. Running multiple cookers by hand means every batch is slightly different, and that variance shows up as contamination. One chamber under programmable control produces identical cycles, and 150 bags at a time replaces a full day of shuffling cookers.

How is this different from a 150L or 200L vertical autoclave?

Capacity and loading. Vertical units load from the top, so every unload means reaching down into a hot chamber. The B-310L is side-loading at working height. It also runs roughly double the volume and gives you programmable control over both sterilization and pasteurization cycles.

What does installation involve?

Connect power to the control box and electrical panel. No plumbing, drain lines, or steam supply. At 31" wide and 57" tall it passes through a standard doorway. Confirm your available electrical service before ordering — single phase needs a 50A circuit at 220V.

Can I really leave it running overnight?

Yes, and that is how most farms get two cycles out of a day. The programmable controls run the cycle to completion and shut the machine down. Water-level auto-shutoff protects the element if the chamber loses water, a mechanical over-pressure valve backs up the controls, and the door stays locked until pressure has vented. The load is waiting for you in the morning.

Why can't I just open the valve to speed up cooling?

Filter patch bags will burst. Rapid depressurization is fine for rigid containers — substrate jars and tissue culture vessels vent quickly with no issue — but bags need pressure to come down gradually. This is the main reason mushroom cycles run longer than lab cycles in the same machine.

What maintenance does it need?

Door gaskets and seals are the primary wear items and should be inspected regularly for compression and cracking. Sanitary connections make cleaning and part replacement straightforward, and heating elements are removable.
